IRON GRIP JUDO

ABOUT US
The IRON GRIP JUDO CLUB is located in the village of Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada. Our main goal is to help people reach their potential both physically and mentally through JUDO.
"Judo is the highest application of mind and body"
Jigoro Kano - Founder of Judo
We are known for our family atmosphere and for supporting our Judoka's in their pursuit to become stronger and more confident. We foster friendships, while instilling respect, focus, discipline, fitness and of course fun!
We have come a long way since our humble beginning in the year 2000. We have evolved from old gym mats in a school gymnasium, to our own state of the art Judo dojo that we currently train in, equipped with official tatami mats on top of a shock absorbing floor. Currently we have approximately 45 members and our Judo family grows larger every year.
The club was founded in the year 2000 by Sensei Gino Caron. Gino began teaching Judo at the local school G. Theberge in the gymnasium and had only one Student the first year. Sylvio Roy was that one student and he went on to take over the club as Sensei in 2005. Sadly Sylvio passed away April 20th 2009. He has been both remembered for his contributions to the community and sincerely missed by his family and students. Michelle Breton filled the role of Sensei until he retired in 2010. Since 2010 the club has been run by one of Sylvio's former students Steve Morris.
“Nothing under the sun is greater than education. By educating one person and sending him into the society of his generation, we make a contribution extending a hundred generations to come.”
